Austin, TX USA

Artwork Budget: $35,000 USD

In conjunction with Wimberley Glassworks and L.M.Holder

Inspired by a running stream, this flowing glass spiral cascades in harmony with the local natural stone in Creekside at the Hills. Based on a golden spiral, this piece ties into the more rigid forms of the building while working with the theme of the beauty of the hill country brought in.

The building’s primary use is medical offices, so the goal was to create a piece that encouraged wellness in all aspects. The owner wanted a piece that would encourage people to take the stairs and that would look intriguing from all three floors of the open atrium space. The depth of the spiral alines with the staircase as it makes its rotation reinforcing the mathematical component which intrinsically calms the eye. This was made using 88 pieces of hand-blown glass, utilizing specialty coated aircraft cable and stainless steel grippers.
